Do-it-yourself ottoman from plastic bottles

Plastic products have firmly entered our lives and accompany everyday. If desired, it will be an excellent material for creativity - lightweight and reliable, and most importantly, affordable. It will work even with a fragile girl. Try to make ottoman from plastic bottles. Such an accessory is useful if you like to meet guests or become an excellent solution for a child’s room, due to ease of movement, safety and durability.

In this matter, it all depends on the model chosen and the size of the future product. You can make a small round seat or a rectangular, elongated version. Each part consists of two bottles, so you will need 20 bottles of 2 liters.

IMPORTANT! Textured or ribbed bottles guarantee extra rigidity to every detail.

The container must be prepared - rinse off the rest of the drinks and dry. The next stage is strengthening the strength of plastic. Wrap the lids and place the bottles in the freezer or on the balcony, if the temperature is outside, leave it overnight. After, tighten the caps in the cold, and only then bring them home, and leave them under the battery. Thanks to this trick, the air inside the bottles expands and makes the plastic stronger.

ATTENTION! To make the design heavier and more static, each bottle can be filled with sand, but no more than 1/3.

In addition to plastic containers, the following materials will be required for the manufacture of ottoman:

  • adhesive tape and masking (paper) tape;
  • thick cardboard in several layers, corresponding to the shape of the future seat;
  • a sheet of foam rubber, with a thickness of 50 mm or more;
  • old fabric (a sheet or unnecessary t-shirts will do);
  • pencil, paper, scissors, strong thread and gypsy needle;
  • fabric or yarn for a decorative cover;
  • stationery knife, furniture stapler.

Having prepared everything you need, choose a job. An important condition is the presence of a flat surface to maintain the level of fastening of the bottles.

Each bottle needs to be prepared, for this:

  1. Having retreated 1/3 of the cover, glue the masking tape in a circle. With a clerical knife, cut in the middle of the tape.
  2. Separate the neck and insert it inside, to the very bottom. The resulting design fits a whole bottle. The joint is glued with tape several times.
  3. So it is necessary to do with all the bottles. Glue the received parts of 3 pieces together with several layers of adhesive tape.

ATTENTION! The round shape of the future pouf is collected from 1 central bottle, and to make an oval, two are located in the center.

All triple parts are again fixed together with tape, and then:

  1. Put the finished frame on paper and circle the outline, it will help to cut parts from foam rubber and fabric. Cardboard parts are mounted on the sides. Previously, glue or “sew” a stapler several layers.
  2. It is time for foam. On a paper pattern, cut out the seat of the required shape, as well as a part for the side. Attach soft parts to the base and sew along the edge with a strong thread.

IMPORTANT! Do not tighten the stitches very tightly. Over time, the thread can cut delicate foam.

For practicality, trim the resulting ottoman with an old knit fabric. It will not allow foam rubber to go astray and tear. To do this, cut 3 parts: the upper, lower and lateral parts according to the ready-made patterns for foam rubber, adding allowances for the seams of 1.5-2 cm. Also, do not forget to take into account the thickness of the foam rubber.

First, the side part is sewn, and the upper and lower parts are already attached to it. The cover is turned out and put on the pouf, it should sit tight enough. Such a “rough” cover can be made non-removable by sewing on the bottom with a furniture stapler.

The most creative and enjoyable part in creating a ottoman from plastic bottles! The finished piece of furniture should fit into your interior, be its detail. Therefore, do not rush with the choice of fabric, but study several options:

  1. A fabric cover is a classic option, the main thing is to choose a color that matches the room. It is better to choose a fabric more dense, resistant to abrasion. Furniture upholstery is great.
  2. Leather or skins. substitute. Suitable for more formal designs and office options. Such a pouf will fit perfectly into your home office or work area.
  3. Patchwork. Such covers will make the pouf homely and cozy, it can be placed in the nursery or bedroom. It all depends on the fabrics and colors used. Covers from old jeans look original. They are practical, modern and do not require additional costs! To such a case you can sew a pocket for the necessary little things, for example, a remote control or a magazine.
  4. Knitted cover from knitted fabric. Interior items using this yarn came into fashion not so long ago and are becoming more and more popular. After all, they are suitable for almost any interior thanks to a wide range of colors and external presentability. You can connect the case with a beautiful gradient, or using contrasting shades.
  5. Case "for the pet." Having covered a padded stool with a dense carpet fabric, you can get an excellent scratching post for a fluffy pet, thereby preserving more expensive pieces of furniture in safety!

ATTENTION! If you have children, feel free to involve them in creating creations from plastic. Children's vision is different from that of an adult, so the results will be unpredictable, and co-creation will captivate both of you.

As a result, having spent several hours of free time and having made a little effort, you can create a very practical and necessary thing in the house, and most importantly, it will be the only one of its kind, which rightfully makes it designer!
