Parquet dismantling

Parquet is a coating that is durable and has a long service life, especially with proper care. But despite this, over time, any material wears out and parquet flooring is no exception. The main advantage of this coating is the ability to repair without dismantling the entire surface.

If the defects are not very large, then individual elements are replaced with new ones. The plane is polished and varnished. But sometimes the wear of the flooring is so great that it remains only to dismantle and change the parquet. How to properly perform this work is worth considering in more detail.

Preparation of tools for parquet dismantling

For the process of dismantling the old parquet, a certain set of tools is necessary, the choice of which depends on the chosen method of dismantling. So what tools may be needed to remove parquet flooring:

  • chisels;
  • crowbar or chisel - will help to pry off individual elements of the coating;
  • pull out if you need to remove nails;
  • grinder - used for sawing dies, if you can’t remove an individual element in another way;
  • spatula - used to remove glue and debris;
  • building hair dryer - used if the parquet was mounted on a special resin;
  • hammer.

How is the work done

The assortment of parquet material is very large; there are such varieties as panel, piece, palace and others. Each of the coatings has its own individual characteristics. We will analyze the process of dismantling piece parquet, as it is the most common at the moment.

How to remove old parquet? It is worth immediately indicating that this type of flooring is the most difficult to disassemble. Even professional builders with many years of experience cannot dismantle this coating while preserving the dies - this is simply unrealistic and impossible. So, we will consider how to perform dismantling with minimal losses:

  1. First of all, you should tap the parquet over the entire surface with a wooden hammer or mallet for a thud, as it is in this place that there is a void under the cover. It will be much easier to start dismantling from this place.
  2. With a wide chisel, pick up one bar, if the parquet is glued, the building hair dryer, which heats up the product or the chisel and hammer, will help ease the action. If on nails, then a nail clipper or crowbar will come in handy. In case of preservation of the material, one must act with special care, as the old parquet boards are very fragile and can be easily broken with one careless movement.
  3. As soon as all the strips are removed, it is the turn of the substrate, which must be cleaned of the adhesive composition. If the area is small, then the plywood can be freed from glue with a wide chisel and hammer. But if the room has more than 20 squares on the floor, then it is better to use a grinder, on which a polished disk with a metal brush is equipped.

Advice! In this process, there will be a lot of dust in the room, so you should take care of protecting your eyes and respiratory tract.

Work with the use of power tools will be much faster, and the result will be much better.

Expert Advice

Many experienced masters advise:

  • Before completely dismantling the surface of the parquet flooring, consider the possibility of repair, since such a cladding is expensive, and it is often impossible to completely replace it;
  • if after dismantling, it is not possible to remove the glue or resin from the plywood, then it is easier to dismantle and lay a new one - so the new parquet dies will fall more densely and efficiently;
  • it is allowed to lay the parquet flooring on the screed, therefore, in the unsatisfactory condition of the base, it is leveled with a bulk, self-leveling floor.

If you have never dismantled the parquet, and want to do this with partial preservation of the material - contact the specialists who will carry out the work as efficiently as possible.

Dismantling parquet is a painstaking process, but it is quite possible to do it yourself, if you approach the work with all responsibility. In this case, there is no need to rush, especially if there is a desire to preserve part of the material, and apply it in a small area.
